General tips

Include date DO NOT include: volume or issue numbers

If the city of the publication is not obvious from the title, then the name of the city must included after the title in brackets (e.g., Telegraph-Journal [Saint John]; Province [Vancouver]).

Newspapers are produced in many editions and formats and page numbers are not required. However, print editions do need page citations.

If the article is on consecutive pages, specify the page range (e.g. 4-6). If not (for example, if the article begins on page 5 and continues on page 15), follow the first page number by a plus sign (e.g. 5+)

Format:

Last, First M. "Article Title." Newspaper Title [City], date, pp.

Example:

Brubaker, Bill. "New Health Center Targets County's Uninsured Patients." Post and Courier [Charleston, SC] 24 May 2007, pp. LZ01.

Newspaper — Electronic version

DOIs or URLs are required for all electronic sources.

Library Database: Provide the same information as you would for a printed journal article and add the name of the database in italics after the page numbers and before the DOI or URL.

Note — If there are no page numbers, such as for a website, simply end the citation with the URL.

Format:

Last, First M. "Article Title." Newspaper Title [City], date, pp-pp. Library Database [if available], URL.
