Government Document
General tips
Cite the author if the author is identified. Otherwise, start with the name of the national government, followed by the agency (including any subdivisions or agencies) that serves as the organizational author.
The government department may be the publisher.
Government document — Print version
Format:
Last, First [or] Government, Department/Agency. Title of Document. Publisher, Year published.
Examples:
Fitzgerald, Robin. Fear of Crime and the Neighbourhood Context in Canadian Cities. Statistics Canada, 2008.
United States. Dept. of Labor. Employment and Training Administration. Dictionary of Occupational Titles. GPO, 1977.
Government document — Electronic version
DOIs or URLs are required for all electronic sources.
Library Database: Provide the same information as you would for a printed journal article and add the name of the database in italics after the page numbers and before the DOI or URL.
Format:
Last, First [or] Government Department. Title of Document. Publisher, Year published. Library Database [if available]. URL.
Examples:
